TASEL-M2
Description
The Teachers Assisting Students to Excel in Learning Mathematics: Phase II (TASEL-M2) Project is designed to prepare and support mathematics teachers teach effectively by engaging full mathematics departments in cohesive strategies through Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR), Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), Cycles of Professional Inquiry (CPIs), and Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK). All teachers in each middle school and high school mathematics department of a single urban school district are provided workshops in GRR, PLCs, CPIs and PCK. Mathematics Peer coaches in pre-algebra and algebra are provided with support to work with teachers through specific training in Cognitive Coaching, whereas the Department Chairs at each school are supported with additional training on developing PLCs. Each leadership role is supported by specific training of skills necessary with the intent to create a team that can facilitate student-centered collaboration and CPIs. By building common and cohesive knowledge of these various processes for teaching and learning, teachers are given strategies to be most effective in creating optimum learning.
