Citizen Science Research Integrated Across the Curriculum
Description
The iEvolve with STEM MSP project is investigating practices that can make it possible for students to participate in citizen science research projects, led by professional scientists, as part of their classroom instruction designed to help them meet State learning standards. Research is being conducted to determine how this affects student motivation, engagement, and success in learning. Approximately 3,000 students and 80 teachers in two medium-size Midwest school districts have been participating. The curriculum has been revised in all four major subject areas: not only science, but also language arts, social studies, and mathematics, to relate student learning to the topics represented by the research projects. This video will summarize some of the research projects in which students are participating and the impact that it has had so far.
